The artwork in the Sicilian culture

By the Governance of Sicilian Artisan Foundation

Sicilian drawn – thread work is an ancient technique of embroidery carried out on linen cloth. The work consists in choosing the design a priori and at that point you start to drawn -thread,  that is, you cut the linen threads to create a net in which is precisely recreated the chosen design, or: flowers, leaves, volute, rosettes, figures, animals etc. inspired by the Sicilian figure. Sheets, tablecloths, curtains, dresses, towels and sacred vestments are the most common works made with the Sicilian sfilato.
