Description by the artist

Sicilian folk tambourine with natural and tunable goatskin. Walnut frame, tunable goatskin, wrought iron rods, copper rattles and various Sicilian theme paintings on a blue background.  It starts by working the walnut frame until it gives the final form, the rattles are hand-beaten copper, the same as the rods, the goatskin is worked by hand following the standard procedure. All this is enriched by decorations on a blue hand-painted background representing the colors and symbols of Sicily.

The Tarantella is a typical Sicilian dance usually accompanied by the friscalettu, tambourine, maranzano and accordion. It is a dance probably originated in 1600 and became a symbol of southern Italy all over the world.
