Description by the artist

The satin scarf, light and bright green in color, reproduces in its handmade painting with colors suitable for silk, a theme from the precious frescoes of a Liberty villa in Palermo. Soft and enveloping, it leads to the idea of distant worlds, rich in grace and refinement like that of the Belle Epoque, which had its wide development in Sicilian cities.

The artwork in the Sicilian culture

By the Governance of Sicilian Artisan Foundation

Villa Igiea is a beautiful Liberty (Art Nouvea) villa in Palermo. It was built in  the 1900 among lush gardens with an extraordinary view of the Gulf of Palermo. Inside there are luxurious frescoed rooms. It was a hotel that  hosted among the most important personalities of the Belle Epoque of the time. The hall of mirrors, frescoed by Ettore De Maria Bergler, a painter born in Naples in 1850, is an explosion of young girls in bloom among irises, poppies and pomegranates, an elegant and enchanted world. These paintings are in excellent harmony with the furniture and architecture designed by Ducrot and Basile. The mirrors and wood frame the spaces amplified by reflections. An extraordinary example of Sicilian Liberty style.
