Bags Jute
Single artwork

Description by the artist

The painting of this handbag is inspired by Scylla and Charybdis the two sea monsters of the legend. The red, gold, purple colors and the passementerie that adorn it remind me of the charm of the painted sets of the Opera of  the puppets theater.
Jute bag, bamboo handle, golden chain shoulder strap, damask fabric lining, inside pocket. The top edge is adorned with red and gold lace passementerie. The front is hand painted and signed like a painting. Unique like all the bags I make with love and care.

The artwork in the Sicilian culture

By the Governance of Sicilian Artisan Foundation

Scylla and Charybdis are two sea monsters that mythology has placed in the Strait of Messina. This part of the sea that separates Sicily from the Italian peninsula was once famous for its currents that aroused the concern of sailors. These dangerous whirlpools were attributed to the fury of Scylla (she who tears apart) and Charybdis (she who sucks in).
