Porta nuova a Palermo
Description by the artist
And every time I go in and out of this door, I feel like I’m living in a time when I wasn’t there, it seems to me that the ticking of the steps stops and the hands begin to whirl backwards, and I…. catapulted into a cart going through Porta Nuova.

The artwork in the Sicilian culture
By the Governance of Sicilian Artisan Foundation
Porta Nuova is one of the historical gates of Palermo, adjacent to the Norman Palace. Still existing today, its first foundation dates back to the fifteenth century.
Photo Palermo, Engraving with the square of the Royal Palace lookingtowards the Palace, Porta Nuova and a portion of Via Toledo (now Corso Vittorio Emanuele), 1842
"Art is Soul, Feeling, it is the truest part, intimate and suffered expression of those who "feel" life differently...the gift is of few, but each of us perceives its majestic and eternal beauty"
The Governance also suggests
The objective of the Governance is both to safeguard the traditions and ancient crafts of the people of Sicily, and to sustain economically the Artisans and the Artists, both the real ethno-anthropologists of the country.
