When I was invited to attend an event in Palermo and I saw the Palazzina Cinese for the first time, I was greatly impressed. How strange, how bizarre? It’s really incredible this island!

The Palazzina Cinese (Chinese palace) is a unique building in typical oriental style designed by the architect Venanzio Maraviglia in 1799 for Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, is located in Palermo, the capital of Sicily. It has pagoda roofs, turrets, helicoidal stairs, arcades and ogival arches. It has three floors and inside you can admire ballrooms, decorated halls, bedrooms and other environments often with architectural and decorative references in Chinese style. In the rooms used for the dependencies, that is, in those that once were the lodgings of the royal servants, today there is the beautiful ethnographic museum “Giuseppe Pitrè”.
