Bags Microfiber

Description by the artist

To make the masciddara (the two sides of the Sicilian cart) of this handbag I was inspired by the colors of one of the Sicilian symbols: the cart. Each crocheted round is of a different color and stitch, which is combined and intertwined as a decoration of one of the sides of the cart. Crochet microfiber bag, Bamboo handles, golden chain  shoulder strap, damask fabric lining, inside pocket. The front is hand-painted and signed as a painting, the upper edge is covered with a salmon-colored ribbon passementerie. Unique like all the bags I make with love and care.

The artwork in the Sicilian culture

By the Governance of Sicilian Artisan Foundation

U carrettu siciliano  was the means of transport par excellence in the past centuries of the Sicilian people: both rich and poor. Basically it is a sort of wooden wheelbarrow pulled by horses. The peculiarity of the Sicilian cart was given by the sides of this structure, the sides, in which was almost always represented a scene of the Opera of the Puppets, representation of Sicilian puppets extremely popular since the seventeenth century (the cart itself was born around that time). Also, the cart was often very colorful in all its spaces, whether it was wheels, lateral woods, rods, etc..
Even the horse that pulled it, usually festive, was harnessed with bright colors. Needless to say, its more or less artistic opulence marked its social status.

The objective of the Governance is both to safeguard the traditions and ancient crafts of the people of Sicily, and to sustain economically the Artisans and the Artists, both the real ethno-anthropologists of the country.
