Description by the artist

I created Mari di ciuri (Sicilian for A sea of fruits) using the clay slab technique and raku technique in decoration. Having created this lamp as well as other artifacts with the coral as the main actor for me has the purpose of sensitizing those who observe the artwork, the need to safeguard the marine environment that surrounds our land and at the same time maintain strong roots of our tradition … giving it “continuity”…

The artwork in the Sicilian culture

By the Governance of Sicilian Artisan Foundation

The processing of red coral from Trapani is an art that dates back to the eleventh century, when the Arabs ruled in Sicily. Since then, skilled Sicilian coral masters have created real masterpieces, such as nativity scenes, necklaces, bracelets, liturgical objects … in which the coral is often coupled with copper, gold, lava stone. Princes, cardinals, popes and wealthy aristocrats were among the great clients.
