The artwork in the Sicilian culture
Isola Bella is a picturesque little island close to the Sicilian coast, just below the famous and beautiful city of Taormina. At low tide you can reach it on foot from the mainland which is not even 50 meters away.Together with the gulf in which it is set and Taormina right on top of it, it creates one of the most beautiful landscapes of Sicily. One of the owners, at the end of 1800, was Florence Trevelyan, who enhanced it by building a small house and planting rare and precious essences. This English noblewoman, one of the first travelers in history, married the then mayor of Taormina Cacciola. The enchanting public park of Taormina was part of the garden of their house. Today it is property of the Sicilian Region and it is considered a protected area.
