The artwork in the Sicilian culture

By the Governance of Sicilian Artisan Foundation

Characteristic scene of Sicilian everyday life: a fruit vendor with his motoape parked along a road. These means of locomotion are real walking stores in Sicily: fish, fruit, ice cream, streetfood … are often preceded by proclamations made through a speaker above the shed announcing the arrival of the vendor. But also by thunderous blows of the horn or deafening whistles.

The figure approaching the vendor, with her black dress that seems to cover the head as well, brings to mind a Sicilian woman who is in mourning, that is, she remains dressed in black for several months if not years.
